- Description
This poster, created to celebrate the tenth anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China in 1959, shows the importance of dance in the broader symbolism of revolutionary culture. The four corners of the image represent China’s success in agriculture and industry, the fruit and flowers under the dancers signify a bountiful harvest, the doves represent peace, and the crest at the top with the five stars and Tian’anmen Gate represent the new PRC government. At the center of the image, people are shown dancing and playing music as an expression of their celebration and happiness in the new society that has been created since 1949. Many dance props can be seen in this image, including long pieces of fabric, fans, sleeves, and musical instruments.
