This booklet provides an overview of late Mao-era efforts to improve brick and cement block production techniques and construction practices. It highlights building efforts of several model work units based in cities such as Beijing, Dalian, Hangzhou, Harbin, Nanning, Shanghai, Shenyang, Tianjin, and Xi’an, as well as Fujian, Guangxi, and Henan Provinces. Published in October 1976, it offers a glimpse into the transitions taking place in relation to the built environment both prior to and following the passing of Mao Zedong.
